Daugavpils Set to Host the Extraordinary Final of “Music Bank 2024”
This weekend, Daugavpils will once again take center stage in Latvia’s cultural scene as it hosts the grand finale of Latvijas Radio 2’s renowned survey, Music Bank. On January 25, the daugavpils Olympic center will come alive with the sounds of 15 of the past year’s strongest songs, performed by a stellar lineup of artists alongside the city’s celebrated musical collectives.
This marks the sixth time Daugavpils has been chosen as the venue for this prestigious event, a testament to the city’s vibrant cultural heritage. With the financial support of the Daugavpils municipality, this year’s finale promises to be even more unusual as Music Bank celebrates its 25th anniversary.
A Night of Musical Surprises

The event will feature a unique collaboration between the mixed choir “Daugava”, the chamber orchestra “Daugavpils Sinfonietta”, and the professional wind orchestra “Daugava”. Together, they will deliver a series of special musical surprises, including the premiere of new compositions and a performance of the Latgalian folk song “Auga, auga ružeņa”, arranged by the legendary Raimonds Pauls.“I am very happy that such a Latvian-wide event is taking place in Daugavpils,” says Yevgeny Ustinskov, the artistic director of Vienības nama collectives. “This time, too, we will offer a ‘pre-opening’ program, which, of course, can only be enjoyed in person.”
The evening will kick off with a performance of the iconic “White Song” by Gunārs Kalniņš,accompanied by the mixed choir “Daugava”. Other highlights include the first song ever deposited in the history of Music Bank, “Sitiet bungas” by the group “Bus in the sky”, and a new song premiere by Ivo Fomins.
A Celebration of Talent and Collaboration
For the Vienības nama collectives, the event is both a celebration and a challenge.With less than two weeks to prepare after the final songs are announced,the musicians and singers must quickly find their rhythm. “Yes, of course, itS a busy time when we have to manage to prepare this program,” admits ustinskov. “But our orchestras have professional musicians and our choir has talented singers who quickly manage to find a common musical wave.”
The final show of Music Bank 2024 will be broadcast live on LTV1, Latvijas Radio 2, and the Latvian public media portal LSM.lv, ensuring that audiences across the country can join in the celebration.
A Year of Cultural Highlights in Daugavpils
The Music Bank finale is just the beginning of a year filled with cultural events in Daugavpils. On February 14, the Vienības nama concert hall will host a Valentine’s Day concert titled “under the Stars of Love”, featuring the professional brass band “Daugava” and soloist Kristina Zakharova.
March 8 will see the Daugavpils Sinfonietta chamber orchestra and popular artist Andris Baltacis welcome International Women’s Day with a special performance.
The highlight of the year,though,will be the Latgale Song Festival,coinciding with Daugavpils’ 750th anniversary celebrations. “Both our orchestras and choirs will take part in them, and we will be happy to welcome groups from near and far parts of Latvia,” shares Ustinskov. “I hope that this holiday will also be successful for us!”
