At least 72 people died in the dramatic floods which devastated the south-east of Spain on Tuesday evening, according to a provisional report. This Wednesday, the Valencia region is practically cut off from the rest of the country, with certain villages being inaccessible, emergency services said. The rains that fell generated powerful torrents in the streets of the towns and villages concerned, washing away everything in their path.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Wednesday assured his compatriots hit by deadly floods that devastated the southeast of the country of the state’s full support, but warned that this episode “devastating“maybe wasn’t finished.”We won’t leave you alone“, he said in a brief televised address from the Moncloa Palace, asking residents of the region to remain vigilant, because “we cannot consider that this devastating episode is over“.
