At first it was reported that the earthquake had been of a magnitude of 5.8 degrees, but later it was corrected by the Geophysical Institute from Peru.

The earthquake generated a lot restlessness between the citizens due to its intensity and duration, which reminded many of the earthquake of the year 2007, of magnitude 7.8 and that left hundreds of dead on Ica, Pisco Y Cañete, towns near Mala.

The event did not generate a tsunami alert on the Peruvian coast, according to the Direction from Hydrography and Navigation of the Marina from War From Peru.
