Wout van Aert is training outside on the road again four weeks after his fall in Dwars door Vlaanderen. His team Visma-Lease a Bike has shared a short video of this. Today WvA did a ride of 93 kilometers at an average of 33.2 kilometers per hour. “Almost professional again,” Van Aert wrote.
Today was not Van Aert’s first outdoor training. Last Wednesday, April 17, Van Aert took a mountain bike ride and, judging by his Strava, he then rode his gravel bike (Cervélo Áspero-5) on the road three times. Today was the longest ride: 93 kilometers in 2h48 or an average of 33.2 km/h. He combines these trips with physiotherapy.
“It’s been almost four weeks and I’m happy to be riding in the open air again,” Van Aert says in his team’s video. And he has apparently found his good mood again: “If you ever really want to eat a nice ice cream, this is the right place for you,” he tells the video crew.
Van Aert will not be at the start of the Giro on Saturday, May 4, as initially planned. When he fell on March 27, Van Aert broke his collarbone, sternum and several ribs.
