A couple was going through a divorce process when something unexpected arose. Husband Robie Johnson started noticing a strange taste in his coffee, so he decided to place cameras in the kitchen.

To Robie’s surprise, cameras recorded his wife, Melody Feliciano Johnson, placing a cup of bleach in the coffee maker. This happened from March to July 2023, when they both lived in Germany, and until they returned to Arizona.

Robie Johnson, Melody’s husband and a member of the Air Force, told investigators that from the beginning he pretended to continue drinking the coffee. His plan was to wait until they returned to the United States, to Davis Monthan Air Force Base, where he would file a report with the police.

As soon as the couple was back, Johnson set up a hidden camera to verify his suspicions. Once the woman was recorded pouring chlorine into her husband’s coffee maker, he filed a report with the police. However, the police declined to investigate due to the poor quality of the video.

The man had to buy another camera, this time with better definition and which appeared to be a fire alarm, which could record from the ceiling.

After a few days, Robie took the videos to the police that proved that his wife was trying to kill him by poisoning him with chlorine. Initial investigations confirmed that the coffee maker smelled like chlorine and that there was a container with that substance under the sink.

The case became relevant in the middle of last year when several videos were made public in which the woman is observed placing the laundry bleach in the coffee maker at home.

In the video released by the police, Melody is seen carrying a cup of bleach from the laundry room to the kitchen and pouring the liquid into the coffee maker. However, that would be just one of the many occasions in which the woman would have mixed chlorine with the drink.

Although Melody initially pleaded not guilty, at her last hearing she pleaded guilty to two counts of food or drink poisoning. Specifically, the woman confessed to having placed “significant” amounts of chlorine in her husband Robie Johnson’s coffee maker on July 11 and 18, 2023.

The woman’s husband believes she was trying to kill him “to collect death benefits.”

The 39-year-old woman, scheduled to be sentenced on May 10, could face up to four years in prison, although the minimum sentence would be the time she has already served in prison.
