VIDEO – “We must calm down! “: Martin Blachier does not believe in the 5th wave

While he was alarmist about the 5th wave a few days ago, Dr Martin Blachier finally wanted to reassure the French. Invited in L’Heure des Pros this Monday, November 8, the epidemiologist felt that “it was necessary to calm down” and not to react as in the past. Explanations.

Dr Martin Blachier wanted to be reassuring. At the end of October, on the antenna of France Info, Dr Martin Blachier held a rather alarmist speech about the spread of Covid-19 : “We are at the start of the 5th wave“, he blurted out, before adding:”We are at the beginning of this epidemic resumption phenomenon and there is no reason for it to stop“, he said. This Monday, November 8, while he was a guest on the show Time for the Pros, the epidemiologist suggested that he ultimately did not believe in the 5th wave. On stage, Pascal Praud and his columnists expressed their disagreements over immunization for all. They then wished they had the scientist’s opinion on the matter : “All adults must be vaccinated a priori because we cannot know 100% who is going to be sick and who is not going to be sick, even if there are indeed certain risk factors.“, he explained.

And reassure the French: “With the vaccination rates that we have in France and Germany in these vulnerable populations, which are over 90%, we can be comforted enough (…) The panic that engulfs Western Europe, which is highly vaccinated, due to the rise in these cases, is a bit exaggerated. I think we have to calm down! We are not at all in the same situation as last year, affirmed the one who intervenes regularly in Time for the Pros, before hammering: “We must especially not get back in the same spirit as the one we were in last year.”

Words that did not convince everyone in Time for the Pros

Dr Martin Blachier’s speech was not lacking in get Elisabeth Lévy to react : “Yes but finally we still have the impression that we have been somewhat oversold the merits of the vaccine as total protection“, she pointed out to him.”It’s true, no but it’s true“, commented the epidemiologist. And Pascal Praud to add:”We were sold the idea that when we were vaccinated, we did not transmit the virus and that is why we were vaccinated, to protect others. We realize that this is not true! (…) It’s terrible in my eyes“, lamented the CNews presenter.”It would be terrible if the vaccine was not completely safe, but as it is, we can’t say it’s terrible either“, corrected the scientist. It is said!
