The management of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH) is fighting for the renewal of youth competitions. In recent days, he has negotiated intensively with state officials.

The Government of the Slovak Republic may allow competitive and training events in youth sports at Wednesday’s meeting. On Monday, it approved the return of fans to the stands to 25 percent capacity in terms of OP mode.

“Since the beginning of the season, more than two hundred children have gone to foreign clubs, which is about ten hockey teams. These are critical numbers and critical minuses. Last year alone, we had to cancel more than four thousand matches, another eight hundred this season. This is irreparable damage in the future, ” stressed the president of SZĽH Miroslav Satan on the web hockeyslovakia.sk.

The main requirement is OTP mode: “It was also introduced in the covid machine, which we followed at the beginning of the season in October. Under certain security measures, youth hockey took place and we would need it to return to this state. This is how the sport works in all the surrounding countries. We are already feeling the consequences. The children go to foreign clubs, are demotivated and some will not even return.

We need a stable decision that is long-term and not just a few weeks after which it will change again. Just as people need to plan long-term in business, so parents must have confidence that the system for Slovak children will last and that children will be able to play sports according to certain rules and will not have to go abroad. “

The third hockey season is taking place, which is influenced by bans on playing competitive matches and coaching. “However, I believe that at Wednesday’s government meeting, these numbers will be critically evaluated and a safe solution will be found, which we can also observe in the surrounding states, and we will be able to create conditions for Slovak children to play sports.” added Satan, according to which the return of spectators to the stands could be a positive signal.

“It simply came to our notice then. We don’t know the details yet. If it is 25 percent of the capacity of the point of view, it is good, but clubs would need at least 50 percent to be able to cope financially with this difficult period and for professional hockey in Slovakia to survive the next season. “
