Colombia started its journey in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a victory which has been taking place in the country since this Saturday. With goals from Yunaira López and Linda Caicedo, the national team beat Australia 2-0 and is already starting to think about the next round of the Youth World Cup.
The match was not easy for the team led by coach Carlos Paniaguawho in the first half looked very confused and unable to break through Australia’s defensive siege.
Nevertheless, in the second half the goals came. With the lead on the scoreboard, the pace of the match was different. Having overcome the nerves of not being able to break the tie, Colombia relaxed.
The first goal was scored by number four, defender Yunaira López. The goal was a painting. The Antioquian player hit the ball perfectly and hung the ball from an angle in a divine goal.

VAR saved the Colombian team
With the first goal, Colombia calmed down. Perhaps too much. In fact, they tied the game in a fortuitous play, after a counterattack.
The selection, however, was saved because, as the central referee would indicate after reviewing the VAR, at the start of the play an Australian attacker stepped on one of the Colombian defenders.
With the goal disallowed, the national team stepped on the accelerator. Minutes after the scare, in fact, the 2-0 would come, the goal that would bring relief.
It was Linda Caicedo, the team captain, who played a great game, carrying the attack on her shoulders in Colombia’s worst collective moments during the game. His effort was crowned with a goal in the center of the area. master class and victory for Colombia.
