A new depression, Frederico, will continue to evolve between Thursday and Friday, November 16 and 17, from the Gulf of Saint-Malo towards northern Germany. From this Thursday, November 16, the weather was choppy again.

Vigilance orange

At 6 a.m., 5 departments had been placed on orange alert for floods and strong winds: Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Puy-de-Dome, Pas-de-Calais and Nord.

Later in the day, around 4 p.m., four other departments were placed on orange vigilance: Vosges, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Haute-Corse.

Impressive gusts of wind

Trees were uprooted, and violent winds continued to rage throughout the afternoon.

On the Saint-Jacques viaduct, because of the extremely strong wind, people had difficulty moving normally.

The northwest was also affected, with gusts ranging from 120 to 130 km/h in Morbihan.

In Nantes, the wind persists, blowing away a metal structure on the tramway.

The weekend should not be spared

Saturday November 18, 2023, a new cold front will slide north of the Loire and will be accompanied by a noticeable westerly wind near the Channel coast, details Meteo France.

By Monday noon, the Frederico depression should “wither away”, according to experts from Meteo France. During the following week, anticyclonic conditions appear to set in over the Atlantic Ocean, which will shift the wind to the north and bring the mercury closer to seasonal temperatures.
