The state of New York, in the United States, has been deluged since Thursday evening by an impressive snowstorm that is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
The images of snowfall hitting New York State are impressive. In just one night, the city of Buffalo in the west of the state, where the storm began, was covered by six feet of snow. The state of emergency was also decreed on the morning of Friday 18 November.

This storm is due to a cold wave, amplified by the so-called “lake effect”. The air is particularly cold in this region, accustomed to harsh winters. Passing over the lakes, the air becomes charged with humidity and in fact even more consistent snowfalls fall. This meteorological phenomenon is known as the lake effect.
