Video: Ukrainian athletes tried to block Abramovich’s super yacht

Ukrainian media reported that the yacht Solaris, also known as My Solaris, faced a protest from the vessel, which tried to block its access to the port, before docking. There were 11 Ukrainians on board the small ship, including several children. It was later revealed that they were members of a youth yachting team from Odessa who came to Turkey for the races.

Members of the Optimist Sailing Team Ukraine chanted “no war in Ukraine” from a small boat, waving their country’s flags. After a while, the Turkish Coast Guard approached the athletes, which forced them to stop the protest, writes the British BBC.

According to the Turkish opposition server Ahval, Abramovich is trying to move part of its assets to Turkey, which has not imposed sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Turkey has good relations with both Ukraine and Russia and is seeking to mediate peace talks in this war.

The nearly 140-meter-long, multi-story yacht with a swimming pool and helicopter landing pad arrived in Turkey about a week after leaving the Montenegrin port of Tivat.

According to Marine Traffic, the vessel, flying the Bermuda flag, has circumnavigated the Greek island of Crete in recent days and then arrived in Turkish waters. The super yacht was built in a German shipyard and set sail for the first time at the beginning of last year.

The second of several yachts owned by billionaire Abramovich arrived in the Turkish resort of Marmaris on Tuesday. The Eclipse yacht, which is one of the largest in the world at 160 meters, is worth about $ 700 million.
