Boosted by the Olympic victory of Antoine Dupont’s Blues, rugby 7s is on the rise. And this is confirmed by the signings that UBB has just recorded for the summer stages of the 2024 Supersevens.
TOP 14. Surprise signing and ultimate thrill for legend Juan Imhoff with Racing 92
If other clubs like Monaco (Speckman, Kunatani) or Section Paloise with Will Maddocks have gone looking for well-known names, Bordeaux clearly could not have hit harder.
In Mont-de-Marsan, then La Rochelle (August 24) and Pau (August 31), spectators will have the opportunity to see Marcos Moneta and Luciano Gonzalez in Bordeaux colours.
VIDEO. MARCOS MONETA: remember the name of the kid who amazed the Tokyo Olympics!
Who? Two rugby 7s superstars, real ones. The two Pumas have just played in the Olympics with Argentina, losing in the quarter-finals to Les Bleus.
Moneta, 24, is one of the faces of World Rugby 7s. A speed phenomenon (he has already been clocked at 38km/h), very smart and who has disconcerting support and a very accurate foot game. Thanks to all this, the star from Buenos Aires has already scored 62 tries in 75 matches with Argentina, but has also been voted the best player in the world at 7s in 2021. In short, a crack, who still has to find his rhythm after his 3 months of absence at the beginning of the year following a serious ankle injury.
Alongside him, Bordeaux did not bring in his most faithful thief Rodrigo Isgro, the best player in the world in 2023, but rather his other accomplice, Luciano Gonzalez. Although he has never received such a prestigious distinction, he is nonetheless the most powerful player on the World 7s circuit. With a low centre of gravity (1m80 for 95kg), a monstrous racket and exceptional explosiveness, the XV international (1 official selection) is a real poison in duels on a 7s pitch.
Together, there is no doubt that these two key players of the Argentine team will help UBB perform in this SuperSevens. That’s what they were paid for anyway!
