The elephant arrived at La Aurora Zoo 16 years ago, when she was rescued from a circus. Since then, she has become the emblem of the park located in the Guatemalan capital, according to Misa Leiva, ecology coordinator at La Aurora.
“Trompita came when he was 47 years old and currently shares an enclosure with the antelope”Leiva told EFE.
Peaceful and with a big smile, the elephant Trompita blew out the 63 candles on her birthday cake today.
Leiva assures that Trompita is an affectionate elephant and that he has various anecdotes with her, such as when he takes out his trunk to greet her. “She likes to share with us,” said the Zoo representative.
Trompita eats an average of 180 kilos of fruits and vegetables a day and although it is not known how long he will remain among Guatemalans, it is estimated that in this habitat he can live up to 70 years, when in his natural environment it is difficult for his species to reach at 60.
Where this elephant now resides, another one called Mocosita lived 9 years ago, and it was also the biggest attraction at the zoo. In her honor, a plaque commemorates what was, once, the most famous animal in the country.
