The 2nd stage of this cycling tour of Guyana ends in Matoury on August 18 with the victory of Guyanese Briton John and the recovery of the yellow jersey by Anthony Haspot, from the Born’heures team. Listen to the interview with the stage winner and check out the rankings.
A difficult stage marked by 10% slopes! At 2:05 p.m., 112 runners set off from the Rémire-Montjoly town hall towards the RN2, where they encountered difficulties.
The first riders eventually let go of the peloton. There are about twenty of them, among them, already, Briton John from the Guyana selectionHe is accompanied by Emiliano VILA (ASPTT Nancy) and Anthony HASPOT (Team Born’heures), both well placed in the general ranking.
The latter also wins the 2nd hot point, with its 2″ bonuses. A sprint which would later give him the yellow jersey.
After the U-turn at the gold prospectors’ inn, Clément JAVOUHEY from Vélo Club Dolois caught up with the leaders and even ended up keeping them at a good distance for a few kilometers. He was eventually caught by eight cyclists, most of whom were in the first leading group. After the Califourchon roundabout, the small group launched into a sprint.
500 meters from the line, the Guyanese sets off alone and wins the 2nd stage.
But Anthony HASPOT is the big winner for now, as he grabs the yellow jersey. It had been won by the Dutchman Sten VERZIJL the same morning, during the time trial. The rider from the Born’heures team had already shown his abilities during the first stagehe came in first position.
