Wednesday January 4, 2023 is a very important day for Tobe from Tielt, because on that day he will release his first single ‘Onderweg’. A single he shouldn’t release independently, because Tobe has found a home with the PIAS record company.
When Tobe ended up on the set of #LikeMe in 2018, it proved to be the beginning of his still early but remarkable development as an artist. His unique timbre also gave Tobe an impressive ride in “The Voice of Flanders” where his voice and charisma made him a favorite of the audience and judging panel. Tobe then decided to further develop his acting skills at the Utrecht Theater School.
During these studies, however, the music did not let him go. He spent over a year in the studio working on his real voice and his musical journey. He has developed a repertoire of classic and contemporary Dutch songs. He colored those songs with his own interpretations, ranging from intimate piano arrangements and finely layered vocals to dramatic strings, intense guitars and fresh electronica, each time in his emotional language of him. The long-awaited result was mixed in New York by renowned producer/mixer Mark Plati (David Bowie, Prince…). PIAS offered him an artist deal and together they are working on an album.

The first single is a bizarre version of “Onderweg” by Abel and Joris Raesenberg. The singer and writer of the original can taste Tobe’s version. Tobe himself says about ‘Onderweg’: I immediately felt that I wanted to be the first to come out with this montage. “On the road” helped shape my album. It’s my coat rack, on which I would like to hang and connect my other songs.” (PADI)
