The choreography for the song “Jerusalema” was filmed at various “typical” locations at the Helene-Lange-Gymnasium in Fürth.

Schoolchildren of all grades dance in the school building, teachers copy in time, the cleaning staff race with the secretariat and the headmaster even performs via video conference from the quarantine: Anyone watching the video of the Fürth grammar school these days will feel: There there is a lot of heart in it.
Suddenly there was no distance learning: criticism also came from Fürth
After it was published on YouTube on Monday evening, the number of views skyrocketed: the clip was viewed around 20,000 times on the first day. He quickly earned a lot of applause in social networks, and many former students are enthusiastic – and touched.
#staystrong is the message that students and teachers want to convey – like everyone else who is taking part in the “Jerusalema Dance Challenge”, which is currently going around the world. The dance videos are published around the world; nuns and priests, airport workers and many hospitals have already participated. The Fürth Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium has also already accepted the challenge. There was dancing in the Julius Hirsch Sports Center.
The song “Jerusalema” by the South African composer Master KG was actually recorded in 2019. In 2020 it will be symbolic of solidarity in this challenging time, say Agnieszka Hübner and Peter Levay. The two HLG teachers – she is a sports teacher, he is a music teacher – coordinated and implemented the high school video. It was supposed to be a whole school action, despite the difficult circumstances. In the end, classes were always divided or in quarantine.
Replacement for physical education and music lessons
Normal sports and music lessons were no longer possible in view of the Corona restrictions (no contact sports, no singing), the two say. A solution was needed – and it was found with the “Jersualema Dance Challenge”.
Agnieszka Hübner took over the organization and studied the choreography with around 150 pupils of all grades as well as some teachers and other employees. There was dancing in the school corridors and in the playground, in the classroom and in the teachers’ room, in the bio and music hall, and even in the underground car park. Each group danced the entire song at the respective location, says teacher Caroline Pauchet, who also took part. Her fitness watch showed 45 minutes of aerobics at the end, she says with a laugh. A pinch of humor could not be missing either, and so the staff copied to the rhythm.
The shooting stretched over two weeks, with music teacher Peter Levay responsible for filming and editing, who also ventured onto the roof of the school for some recordings.
Corona in and around Fürth: These schools and daycare centers are affected
The project was not about perfecting the steps, say Hübner and Levay, but about “the cohesion of a community of the school family that does not allow itself to be discouraged in these difficult times and makes the best of it”. In the end, the result was more than a video clip: “In many, that strength and motivation was evoked that they previously no longer thought possible.”
