The little remark did not go unnoticed. “It’s the worst city in France,” smiles Colman Legrand, referring to Thionville, the second city of Moselle.
A video about hate on Twitter
What happened ? On their secondary channel, McFly and Carlito released Sunday, January 17, 2021 the second episode of The Oval Table, with Seb and Colman Legrand as guests, two others youtubeurs.
The video, which lasts 1h20, evokes the hatred that can be found on Twitter and the consequences that users’ writings can have. More broadly, it questions the use of social networks and user behavior.
In four days the video was seen over a million times.
What is Thionville doing in there?
The four videographers, also Twitter users, use their personal experiences to fuel the discussion.
Colman, also known as @ FoxA9Tails, came out an old tweet signed by his hand, at the time when he had reached the mark of 120,000 followers (more than 228,000 today). “You realize that if we all got together, we could to storm Thionville and each inhabitant would end up in three against one? He wrote. Indeed, at 120,000 users against 40,000 inhabitants, the battle promises to be unbalanced.
This joke, dating from August 29, 2020, resurfaced in the video of January 17, 2021. To the question “What idea to besiege Thionville?” “From Carlito,” It’s the worst city in France, “Colman replied humorously. McFly meanwhile split a dedication for the “Thionvillais” and the “Thionvillaises” (sic)! All the participants admitted not knowing where Thionville was located.

Even the city of Thionville reacts
The passage made many Internet users react, some ironically boasting of living there, others claiming to have known “worse”. Colman was also amused by the situation and the extent of what was a simple joke.
A few hours after this reaction, it is the City of Thionville herself who came to clear things up! “We are a little upset …” she introduced. Then, “We are Thionvillois (es)”, she specifies, and not Thionvillais (es).
Finally, she invited Colman and his community to come and visit Thionville to show that the city “deserves a look”.
