A group of Franciscan fathers and parishioners of that Catholic congregation were rescued this Monday night after being trapped for several minutes in an elevator of a funeral home located in the La Cima neighborhood, in the department of San Salvador.
In total there were 16 people who were trapped, who after being locked in for a long time began to feel anxious because the funeral home employees could not open the elevator doors.
In that sense, those affected chose to ask for help from the El Salvador Fire Department so that they could come to the rescue. But lifeguards from the Salvadoran Red Cross and Salvadoran Green Cross also arrived.
Because it was not possible to deactivate the elevator door mechanism, rescuers used hydraulic equipment to break the doors and allow the Franciscans to exit.
