EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- Pavel de Camps Vargas, an expert in social media management, assured that 64% of Dominicans spend about an hour a day reading news on digital platforms, which has positioned the news as one of the most consumed data through social networks.
“The content that the Dominican consumes the most is the news, the news is always staying in the first places from 2014 to here. 64% of readers in digital media spend between half an hour and an hour and a half consuming news content, ”he said.
De Camps Vargas was interviewed by communicator Francisco Holi Matos on the program “En el Foco”, which is broadcast on the digital platform El Nuevo Diario TV.

He stressed that Dominicans have already learned to check the information and no longer easily believe in false news, ensuring that it has been shown that citizens buy the data with at least three different media before disclosing it.
“The most interesting thing is that the Dominican when he sees information compares it minimally with three different media, because the Dominican wants to hear different opinions, for that he has his favorite web pages to analyze, for example, if it is information from the government he looks for it, what position or how they focus on the content, that is why we can say that the Dominican has learned to validate the information”, he indicated.
He also stated that, contrary to what many think, the main readers in the Dominican Republic are young people under 34 years of age, who, according to what the expert stated, have been in charge of bringing the news to platforms that were not created for those purposes.
“On an urban level, 87% of the population has access to the internet and of this, 71% is active through social networks, where content management is so diverse that today we can see the Tik Tok platform giving news and Snapchat news is also disclosed by young people”, he indicated.
Likewise, he stated that although Instagram has so far positioned itself as the network with the highest engagement in the country, it could be dethroned by Tik Tok, due to the scope it has had in recent times in the local population.
In the same way, he argued that despite the fact that the Linkedin platform is pigeonholed by many as a network to post a resume, it is not exclusively stylized to seek employment, but rather its users see it as a way to reinforce knowledge and expand their profile. .
“Studies have been done that this network is very concerned about fake news and 73% of users are concerned about the high level of fake news that occurs in the Dominican Republic,” he said.
