Ideally located between Niort and La Rochelle, the small town of Ferrières d’Aunis in Charente-Maritime has seen its population increase considerably. More than 45% of inhabitants since 2014.
30 minutes from La Rochelle, Ferrières d’Aunis is booming. Its population continues to increase. 45% more inhabitants since 2014. A growth that has something to envy, but which can also be explained with very concrete elements. In the village you can find almost everything: a bakery, a judo school and even a medical center, and everything is close at hand. That’s what convinced Françoise to buy her house there last year.“There is a supermarket, shops, everything is there, everything is close to us. We didn’t want to be isolated, we wanted it to move” explains.
About twenty shops and a supermarket that continues to attract customers, plus 20% more visitors in three years, says the director, Jérôme Montagne:“We would like to continue expanding the store, as since it opened in 2011, there have been four successive expansions.”
The attraction, the shops, a certain tranquility and above all the prices per square meter which end up convincing the new inhabitants. In Ferrières d’Aunis the square meter is 2,700 euros, against 6,000 in La Rochelle. And there are many buildings “On this subdivision there are a hundred inhabitants” explains Bernard Besson, the mayor, “minimum 100 inhabitants without counting social housing”, he continues.
What also pushes the town hall to expand its school, 50 new students have arrived there in the last three years.
