VIDEO Spacecraft Hera launches into the Space Review Asteroid Dimorphos

The Hera spacecraft was launched into space aboard a SpaceX rocket on Monday (7/10).

Hera will begin a mission to reinvestigate an asteroid that was derailed by a collision with NASA’s DART spacecraft in 2022.

Hera’s visit to the asteroid Dimorphos is a new step in efforts to divert the asteroid’s path from Earth.

This effort is necessary to prevent damage to Earth that could be caused by these asteroids.

Dimorphos is a small moon of Didymos that is classified as a near-Earth asteroid.

The asteroid was hit by DART in September 2022 and changed the path and shape of Dimorphos.
