“It all started with the fact that we were working on another song for the Lithuanian Eurovision song selection. To the song, which also made it to the finals, finishing in fifth place. While we were in the process of work, the singer Monika Linkyte addressed Krista. When I got the demo recording of “Stay” in my hands, I could immediately feel the extremely great potential of the song,” reveals Jānis.
“Monika approached me on Instagram, complimented me on my music. She asked if we could work together in the studio sometime. I agreed and invited him to Latvia. She came and within a day and a half we had a demo version of the song. We started discussing who could be the producer of this song, and I suggested our own great talent Jānis, who agreed, and that’s how we all are here.
The song was mixed in England by Christopher Harris. “Stay” is about accepting and getting to know yourself and finding the right place. It can be interpreted both as a dialogue with oneself and with someone else,” says Krists.
Although at first there was no idea that a song should be written specifically for Eurovision, that a strong single is needed to participate in the national selection of Lithuania, where the song is chosen for the International Eurovision Song Contest, “Stay” won the laurels.
“This is the first song that Monica and I wrote together, also the first that the three of us did together. By the time we started to understand the outlines of this song, it became clear to us that it should also be submitted to the Lithuanian Eurovision selection, so to speak, we hit the target,” says Krist.
“Monika was immediately very serious about the national selection with singers and backing vocalists from England, with whom she has studied – really professionals in the field. After the semi-finals and quarter-finals, after each of these selection stages, various changes were made both in the performance and the performance and a little bit in the song as well. In my opinion, one of the keys to victory is precisely that we analyzed the performance and the audience’s reaction all the time and improved it as much as we could,” reveals Krists.
This is the second year in a row that a song produced by JJ LUSH will appear in the international Eurovision Song Contest, as last year he worked with the band Other Boys’ “Eat Your Salad”.
