Today, from Vas supermarket on the Javaweg in Suriname, a silent run was made by family members, local residents and acquaintances of the murdered entrepreneur John Vasilda.
The initiative was taken by local resident Louis Notosoewito, who described their dear neighbor Vasilda as a very sociable person. The approximately 150 runners started from the supermarket with the Rooslaan as final destination for Firma GR Sing. The whole thing was supervised by the bikers from Lelydorp station.
A short speech was given by the wife, the initiator and the son (photo) of the slain entrepreneur. With the silent walk, people wanted to show compassion to the relatives and help ease the suffering. But attention is also being drawn to the Surinamese government to tackle crime and to ensure the safety of society.
John, who was at his grocery store last week was killed by Dean L., was a very social person, he belonged to the large Javaweg family. He has kept his shop running to keep the local residents together. For small matters, the neighbors could always knock on his door.
“We were so close together that when John liked something he just asked the neighbor to prepare something and bring it to the store and then eat together with the neighbors,” says the initiator who says that John will be missed.
The entrepreneur will be buried on Wednesday 18 January.
