For some Las Vegas tourists, a day at the pool ended in shock. A tornado caused chaos and panic among the hotel guests.
Las Vegas, USA – In the tourist stronghold in the US state of Nevada, for once it wasn’t a win in the casino that caused the adrenaline, but a natural phenomenon. While numerous tourists were relaxing at the pool or splashing around in the water in the best weather, a tornado suddenly whipped through the area of the luxury hotel, also known as the pyramid.

A tornado is loud Wetter.net a “narrowly defined form of a hurricane. The air rotates very quickly around a vertical axis. It forms with strong local heating when convection bubbles detach from the ground and start rotating. Depending on the subsoil, it whirls up sand, water or dust.” In the desert climate of Las Vegas, such tornadoes are common and occur mainly in the late morning or early afternoon.
Ofelia Abundez videotaped the whole drama and later posted it on TikTok. The recording went viral there and was shared over 5,000 times (as of July 20, 2022). You can see the tornado sweeping through the crowd and throwing loungers into the air. People were pinned to the ground. Panic and screaming quickly broke out.

Opposite the NBC affiliated site KSNV said the young woman: “It started very quickly. And when it started it seemed like it only started at the pool area looking like a bunch of dust. Then it moved to where the palm trees and chairs were.” Fortunately, no serious injuries were seen among the hotel guests. Abundez went on to explain, “I didn’t expect all the chairs to start flying around and even two seated people basically tipping over. The couches hit them and landed on them. It was very scary.”
In 2021, a tornado that was significantly larger than that in Las Vegas caused a stir on Lake Constance.
