Video: Seriously ill boyfriend gives star player (28) surprise of her life | Football

sport">28-year-old Dobson played her last game in the Australian football league this week. She scored the opening goal in Melbourne City’s 2–1 win over Perth Glory, putting the club in seventh place. Just not enough for a place in the play-offs for the defending champion in the W-League.

sport">But none of that mattered for Dobson, who played once for the national team of her country and is one of the few players with more than a hundred games in the W-League. Her Matt has a brain tumor and will soon be on “aggressive” chemotherapy. Dobson put everything aside for this and decided to stop playing football at the age of 28.

sport">“I’m actually not ready to quit,” she said beforehand ESPN. “But sometimes life forces you to make choices. This is about more than a game. Matt and I have also been very open about this. He got cancer after a stroke on the field six years ago. Then he underwent successful brain surgery. But recently, doctors saw some more activity in a small part of his brain again, and he went back under the knife. Everything went well again and he told me to finish the season in style, but a tumor was diagnosed on March 10. To do this, he now has to undergo aggressive chemo for twelve months. ”

sport">And so Dobson stops playing football. “He is my world,” she added. “I want to give him every chance to win and that is not possible if I play sports.”

sport">After her goal and victory with Melbourne City, she immediately walked up to her Matt. A heartfelt hug followed. But Matt had bigger plans. He’d laughed off a marriage proposal from his girlfriend twice, but now it was his turn. The Australian pulled out a ring, got down on his knees and asked the question. Dobson wasn’t sure what was happening, but of course said, YES!

sport">“I thought I was going to be a wreck, but I am over the moon,” laughed the Australian.
