How did M6 suggest you present Video Quiz?
Issa Doumbia : We have a lot of exchanges with the M6 group. I’m on W9 a lot and we often want to try experiments. So sometimes it can come from me and sometimes it can come from them. And there it came from them. As I was already presenting the 100 videos, so a show, precisely around the videos (laughs), I think that M6 quickly realized that it was my universe, so they offered it to me. When I saw the game, I said to myself: “In fact, it’s a bit the same thing that I do, except that there are guests who come to play, to defend an association.” So, I said to myself: “This is even cooler”. There, we arrive, we are completely relaxed and the game is really super simple since you have to say what you see.
How would you describe the game?
It’s simple. There are themes that will appear on the screens. To earn as much money as possible for your association, you just have to really say as many answers as possible on time. There are images that will scroll and players will have a few seconds to say the celebrity seen on the screen. And sometimes we know the name, but we hesitate, and it’s already too late. With the stress, the speed, the friends who annoy us a little on the side, all that means it’s not that simple (laughs). When we make a mistake, the money comes from one side or the other for the association. That is to say, the more you are wrong, the more money will come for my association. The game has several levels and we always have so much fun on each level. And what’s good, once again, is that it’s for associations, so we don’t have to worry. But there is still competition because our guests don’t like to lose. So, I’m in the middle of that and I like to engage them a little and tell them: “No, but there, you were bad”, “No, but there, really, it was easy”. Whereas I think that if I were in their place, I might have messed up on certain images (laughs).
Video Quiz is inspired by a British show. Had you watched it before?
So, I didn’t know her but I saw a few images, no more than that. In fact, I avoid it a bit because otherwise, it sometimes looks too much like the base game that others see. I think I did something much more casual than the real version. They give me the rules and I try to fit my world around them. And a priori, it did it. So, we’ll see what it will do with viewers, but in any case, we had a good laugh.
Mr. Doumbia, this is the name of your new show. Can you tell us more?
I have asked myself the question for a long time: how to transcribe the life of an artist on stage to really make the public understand certain things without being in the sort of thing where they are being lectured to. I wanted to let them experience a full day with me. Except that at the beginning, I wrote about a day, but I said to myself: a day doesn’t fit, there’s no time, but it’s going to be a whole period of my life with me on scene. So, it’s the professional side and the private side. For that, I found a solution, which is to have everyone around me play in real time on stage. That is to say, whether it is my mother who intervenes while I am spending a day or working, whether it is my banker, whether it is passers-by in the street, whether it is producers, whether it is it’s really the whole universe that I have, the children that I can meet in a store, lots of things in my daily life, well I found technically how to do it. So afterwards, I don’t say too much (laughs) but in any case, I won’t be alone on stage… This show is the evolution from Issa to Monsieur Doumbia. People knew me when I was younger and today, somewhere, I became a dad. So, that’s how I’ve experienced all this progression in my life.
