For some time now, Santa has been enjoying great success thanks to her solo career. The singer of Hyphen Hyphen was on stage at the Stade de France on September 8th to perform the title Live for the best by Johnny Hallyday at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. But on Sunday, September 15, Santa decided to leave the hubbub of Paris to treat himself to a weekend in the great outdoors. The singer of Salty popcorn was invited on the show A Sunday in the Countryside. In front of Frédéric Lopez, she took the opportunity to confide in her family, but also in her childhood. Indeed, Santa explains that when she was little, she did not see herself as a girl. “I don’t see myself as either a girl or a boy, I’ve always been equidistant, at least at that time. I then learned to accept the woman in me,” she explains.
She refuses to be called “little girl” or “little boy”. “At that moment, the child suits me very well”adds the singer. During the interview, Frédéric Lopez again mentions “this non-gendered side”. Santa then prefers to clarify that she did not use this word at the time and it is a part of her that her parents very quickly accepted. “At Christmas, we give presents, Barbie dolls (for girls, editor’s note) and Action Man for boys. My father goes to see the teacher and says: ‘next time, don’t give the little girl a Barbie doll'”, says the composer, specifying that since then, the children of her old school have had the same gifts. This understanding on the part of the adults around her allows her to feel listened to. “It’s a lifelong quest to know how to be a woman. I think, around middle school, high school, after all the experiences that being queer can also involve, I start to understand my place.”she adds.
Santa: his memorable meeting with Johnny Hallyday
Before performing one of the Taulier’s most famous songs at the Stade de France, Santa had the chance to meet Johnny Hallyday when he was still alive. As reported The Figaroin 2016, the singer won, with Hyphen Hyphen, a Victoire de la musique, against Feu! Chatterton. That same evening, she and the members of her group then had the opportunity to share a dinner with Johnny Hallyday. Indeed, it seems that Læticia Hallyday’s husband appreciates the style of music offered by the young artists. “Rheuuuu… Young people are great, long live rock!” would have launched the famous singer that evening, reports the French daily. A memorable memory for Santa.
