New MIB3 multimedia system

More efficient 40 TDI version

The first Audi Q5 of the name was a bestseller in France, selling 43,500 copies in France over its entire career which lasted from 2008 to 2017 and taking first place in sales of the category until 2015. Its replacement, however, did not dominate the market as much as in the whole of 2019 as well as in the first five months of 2020, it remains behind its rivals that are the Mercedes GLC , the BMW X3 or the Volvo XC60, a classification that can also be found on a European scale. The brand with the rings is however determined not to drop its foal as easily and offers it a restyling available to order in July and which will arrive in dealerships in the fall. And, once is not custom, the evolutions, as much esthetic as technological, are rather consequent.

Revolutionary rear lights

It starts from the front with a Singleframe grille with new grids, lower and with a thinner surround, which now separates from the hood and optics redesigned for the occasion, with a new light signature. The side air intakes are also narrower and more vertical and the assembly considerably reduces the front face. In the same spirit, the rocker panels hollow out the lower part of the profile, thus refining it. Finally, at the rear, a bar connecting the two lights appears and the diffuser, now surrounded on each side with small air extractors, has been redesigned. The set is completely successful and gives a serious facelift to Q5. Two new shades are also appearing, District Green (that of the photos) and Ultra Blue.

The redesigned front end as well as the rear lights with the new light signature are the most distinctive aesthetic elements of this restyling.

The current version, also in S-Line finish, for comparison.

As with the previous model, headlights, standard LEDs, are available as an option in an adaptive Matrix version, but the real revolution in the field comes from the rear lights which inaugurate OLED technology, which is a world first according to Audi. Emitting a more homogeneous light, they make it possible to offer personalized sequences for locking and unlocking the car and add, thanks to proximity sensors, other functions. So, when stationary, if another approaching road user is detected within two meters, the lighting will be more intense.

A new MIB3 multimedia system

Inside, the changes are more discreet and go above all through the integration of the new multimedia system MIB3 whose 10.1-inch screen becomes multi-touch, which therefore eliminates the inconvenient rotary control which sat on the center console. Up to six user profiles can be saved, storing parameters such as the position of the seat, steering column and mirrors as well as preferred settings for air conditioning or frequent navigation destinations.

The multi-touch screen of the new multimedia system makes it possible to dispense with rotary control from now on.

New nitrogen oxides filtration system

On the mechanical side, the restyled Audi Q5 is entitled to the latest developments and will be offered for launch in an optimized version of the 40 TDI. Its 204 hp 2.0 2.0 benefits not only from a light 12V hybridization but also from a new system of exhaust filtration with a double injection of Ablue called Twindosing, which further reduces nitrogen oxide emissions. Consumption according to the WLTP standard drops drastically, from 6.4 to 5.4 l / 100 km, the CO2 figures logically following the same trajectory, from 169 to 143 g / km. Then, the 40 TDI will receive the reinforcement of two other variants of the 2.0 TDI as well as a V6 TDI, of the 2.0 TFSI in two power levels, the plug-in hybrids 50 and 55 TFSI e obviously remaining in the catalog.

A rate increase which should be slight

It is still a bit early to know the French prices but we already know that the restyled version of the 40 TDI will be offered against 48,700 € in Germany, against 48,050 € today, which gives reason to hope for relatively low price inflation.
