Youth participation, but how?
Eastern Belgium. – “Youth participation – but how?” The Council of German-Speaking Youth (RDJ) has been investigating this question for over a year as part of the EU Youth Dialogue. In order to take a closer look at the possibilities of youth participation in Ostbelgien, the RDJ publishes three episodes with politically active young people with the video podcast “‘ne Soirée”. The project is supported by the Erasmus + program of the European Union and by Ostbelgien.
After online exchanges with political decision-makers were organized in the autumn, it was clear that young people would like more contact with politics.
In order to take their inhibitions there, the RDJ spoke to young people who are politically active.
In the form of a video podcast, young people from East Belgium who are members of a youth party or youth council were asked: How did you get involved? How does your engagement work? What does it take for you in Ostbelgien so that more young people participate?
Shirin & Leon, Matthias & Nicolas and Louisa & Frederik each answer these and more questions asked by the moderator Samuel in a sequence of around 40 minutes. It’s about political education, a youth quota in politics, the movement “Fridays for future” and much more.
People from different political movements meet each other, but they have the same message for all young people who would also like to get involved in politics: Just do it!
The video podcast will be available from September 8th on Spotify or Youtube under RDJ Ostbelgien – “’ne Soirée”. One episode is published every Wednesday, there are three episodes in total.
There is a preview of the podcast on the RDJ’s Facebook or Instagram channel at rdj.ostbelgien. Information on the EU Youth Dialogue is available at http://www.jugenddialog.be
