Video of the kidnapping of the mayor of Melitopol Ukraine by Russia released page all

KYIV, KOMPAS.com – A video released by the Ukrainian presidential office shows gunmen carrying Mayor elected Melitopol Ivan Fedorov left on Friday (11/3/2022).

The deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Kirill Timoshenko, shared a video on the social media site Telegram that appears to show Fedorov being arrested and escorted across a central square.

President Ukraina Volodymyr Zelenskyy menuduh Russia using the “new stage of terror” with the alleged kidnapping.

The “kidnapping” caused more than 2,000 people to take to the city streets demanding his release.

Zelenskyy asked the Russian forces to heed the call. “Please listen in Moscow!” he said.

“Another protest rejects the efforts of Russian troops to bring the city to its knees under it (Russia).”

He has also spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to ask for his help in releasing Fedorov.

Shortly after the incident, the new mayor of Melitopol – believed to have been sworn in by Moscow – had asked the city to “adapt to the new realities” and stop “performing extremist acts”.

Galina Danilchenko, a former member of the city council, was announced as the new mayor on local TV on Saturday (12/3/2022), according to reports. Sky News on Sunday (13/3/2022).

The proceedings come just days after Ukraine’s parliament claimed the previous mayor, Ivan Fedorov, was kidnapped by gunmen acting on behalf of the Kremlin.

In a televised statement, Danilchenko said: “Dear residents of the city of Melitopol and the district of Melitopol …

“Our main task now is to adapt all the mechanisms to the new reality so that we can start living in a new way as soon as possible.”

He further said, despite all the efforts on his part, there are still people in the city who are trying to destabilize the situation, which encourages residents to take extremist actions.

“I urge you, please, be sensible and not be swayed by this provocation. I speak to the deputies, the people’s representatives from all levels.”

“Honorable representatives – we are elected by the people and our main job is to look after their well -being first.”

For that, he said, steps to form a committee of people’s representatives will be done. This committee will take care of all administrative matters in Melitopol.

Melitopol, about 120 miles (190km) west of Mariupol in southeastern Ukraine, has a population of 150,000 and fell under Russian control on February 26.
