BANTEN, KOMPAS.TV – A video that claims to show sea water on Merak beach, Cilegon City, Banten receding, has gone viral on social media.

In the 24-second video, a man’s voice can be heard reporting that the sea water on Merak beach, Banten has suddenly receded. The boat also ran aground due to shrinking sea water.

The voice of a man also asked the picket officers to stay alert and not sleep to anticipate this phenomenon. The video went viral on Monday night (6/12/2021).

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the video of low tide was not true or a hoax.

Head of BMKG’s Head of Data and Information, Tarjono, confirmed that the viral video of low tide on Merak beach, Banten was false information or hoaxes.

He has also asked officers to monitor the situation on Merak beach to confirm the video. The results of monitoring the sea water on the coast of Merak, Banten are in normal condition and do not recede.

He also asked the public not to panic and continue to monitor information from official BMKG sources regarding natural phenomena and weather forecasts that will occur.
