VIDEO: “New Midsummer Orchestra” in Nītaure forests films a seductive clip to nature – Music

Jaunfolk group “Jauno Jāņu orķestris” has released a new song “Div ‘candles” with original music and song lyrics in the summer awakening. Along with the new composition, the group has also published its video.

The music of the song “Div ‘candles” of the “New Midsummer Orchestra” is by Juris Kaukulis, the arrangement is by “JJO” musicians, the video idea is by Aija and Juris Kaukuļi. The song is inspiring for great works, but the clip is even more uplifting, and it also lacks a smile, for example, as drummer Artis Orubs with his huge instrument wanders through a thicket of spruce, while keyboardist Kaspars Tobis paddles a little wet in the boat “Mališ” it is a small forest lake without a name). The idea of the clip is very easy to read – after a pandemic, everyone can finally meet again, at least surrounded by nature, so everything happens in a completely natural atmosphere, while the lyrics are transcendental, without reviews and beer, cheese, swaying and Midsummer. Nevertheless, in general, this could be declared Midsummer clip no. 1 – according to the moods more appropriate than those we managed to see this year.

“The idea of the song has been growing since last summer’s solstice, when there was no opportunity to perform and, as usual, enjoy the magic, life and joy of making music while playing music together. It is no secret that lately the meeting has been replaced by walking for many of us – nature has served as a healing place, a shrine, as well as a place to work and negotiate. This experience is naturally condensed in the song, merging the transcendental lyrics of folk songs and our music. “Div ‘candles” is like a dream, in which in the 21st century it is possible to meet mythical images, Latvian deities so well known to us, which help those who have gone astray, help seekers to find what they have lost and – also each other. Although the recording of the song was made in several solo sessions, it was an opportunity to meet ourselves – in music and polyphonic singing. The video records the group’s first meeting in a long time – in the open air, in the beautiful forests of the Nītaure side (by the way, Jura’s wife’s Aija family heritage – SV), in the summer awakening, and also embodies the joy of being together, singing and making music, “says JJO leader Juris Kaukulis.

It should be reminded that the group “New Midsummer Orchestra” was formed in 2012, at the summer solstice, and since then has been creating and playing original compositions with song lyrics. The group has met well-known musicians from various music genres: “Iron Wolf” musicians Juris Kaukulis and keyboardist Kaspars Tobis, jazz drummer Artis Orubs, violinist and singer of traditional music Ieva Mūrniece, as well as Latvian National Opera Orchestra double bassist Andris Veinbergs “JJO” has so far released two studio albums (“Kālabad” (2013), “Ieviņa” (2018)), as well as a soundtrack for Roze Stiebra’s centennial animated film “The Sun Ran in the Sky” (2018), for which Juris Kaukulis was nominated for the award ” Kristaps the Great ”.
