It is finally delivered. After five years of work, the Beaulieu Sports Palace successfully moulted on the island of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). Metropolitan equipment, commissioned in 1973, benefited from a major rehabilitation and extension program, in the amount of 41.8 million euros.
Started in 2016, the work took place in several phases, including a first which allowed at the start of the 2018 school year the reopening of the large hall to the public, the H Arena, where the HBC Nantes resides for an annual rent of 90,000 euros (plus a variable part on the economic results).
“It really has nothing to do”
The other two phases of the work consisted in rehabilitating the annex room with nearly 500 seats, the gymnastics room and the four specialized rooms (aikido / judo dojo, karate / taekwondo dojo, boxing and weightlifting).
Ali Rechdaoui, president of the Nantes Karate club (160 members) and master 8e dan, is delighted by this work: “These new infrastructures will allow us to organize internships, grade crossings and competitions, like the other clubs in the region. “
With 260 m² at its disposal, an office and a dedicated female cloakroom, Francis Perrot, coach at Nantes Atlantique boxe (160 practitioners including five professionals), is on the same wavelength. “We now have three rings to train our licensees, it really has nothing to do”, he rejoices.
These new spaces, dedicated to 15 sports associations and 13 schools, represent 90% of the sports practice of the sports hall, or nearly 13,500 hours of slots per year (billed 50 euro cents per hour, Editor’s note).
