Nightmare evening for visitors to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This Thursday evening around 10:30 p.m., while the traditional end-of-day fireworks had just ended, hundreds of tourists present in the Magic Kingdom were suddenly panicked after hearing a noise resembling a gunshot.
Immediately, people started running around, scrambling to get into the park’s stores. “We were there for about 15 minutes, then we were taken to another area behind the store where we stayed for 30 minutes,” Brady, a visitor, told Fox 35 Orlando. “Then we were finally taken out of the park.”
In the chaos, parents picked up their children, leaving empty strollers on the main avenue of Main Street Park. “I thought it was going to be my last day,” said another tourist who filmed the scene. “Mothers were crying looking for their daughters, people were hiding, it was so bad.” A video posted on social media shows the floor of a gift shop littered with chairs and objects that had fallen from the shelves as frightened people sought shelter. Moments later, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department finally dispelled rumors of a shooting on Xspecifying that there were no shooters in the park and that the noise causing the general panic was due to the bursting of a balloon caused during a fight between visitors.
