The impressive strength of the current is linked to the abundant precipitation that fell in the region during the day. Many streets around the Montmorency River were the subject of a preventive evacuation on Friday, for fear that it would overflow and cause significant damage to residences.
Some areas had accumulated nearly 60 mm of rain on Friday noon, while the precipitation was expected to continue into the evening.
Located at the mouth of the Montmorency River, water from the Montmorency Falls flows into the St. Lawrence River.
“Having to evacuate your home at Christmas is certainly not pleasant. Our teams work with municipalities to provide assistance to residents. If you have any problem or concern, do not hesitate to contact the authorities. Support is available, ”Geneviève Guilbault, Minister of Public Security and responsible for the Capitale-Nationale, responded on Twitter.
