The main event of UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi offered a fantastic spectacle. Defending champion Ilia Topuria managed to KO Max Holloway for the first time in his career and defended his championship belt in the 66 kg category for the first time.

Even before the very peak of the UFC 308 tournament, the tension could be cut. Before the fight, Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway engaged in a heated exchange of words on the press and even promised each other to meet in the middle of the cage in the opening seconds, which is a favorite gesture of Max Holloway.
And indeed it was with this that Ilia Topuria entered the match and clearly gestured that he was ready to fulfill the agreement, but Holloway ultimately did not accede to his challenge. Topuria, who put enormous pressure on himself in the style of Karlos Vémola, delivered what he promised. He repeatedly claimed that it was him he finishes Holloway first by KOand he really succeeded.
With this great victory, Ilia Topuria came very close holding a UFC event in Spainwhere the 27-year-old wrestler is extremely popular. As the next in line, Brazilian Diego Lopes (26-6) – number three in the UFC ranking – could get a title shot in the featherweight division. At the same time, there is also a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski, whom Topuria deprived of the title with a hard KO in February this year.
Khamzat Chimaev returned victorious after a year
After a one-year hiatus caused by health complications, the undefeated ghost Khamzat Chimaev returned to the UFC cage in the main preliminary match. His duel with former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker lasted just over a minute and a half of the first round.
After a few seconds, Chimaev entered the takedown and locked the Australian legend in grappling positions. Whittaker defended well, but in the end Chimaev put a choke on him over the jaw – a rarely seen “face crank” and Whittaker immediately knocked it out. Chimaev went 14-0 with the win and we could see him in the middle division title match soon.
