The International Cycling Union has been cracking down this season when riders toss or give away junk, including water bottles, outside the designated waste zones. “Look, UCI, this is what a water bottle can do for a fan.”

sport">Earlier this season, Swiss Michael Schär was kicked out of the Tour of Flanders for rolling a water bottle towards a fan. It brought UCI a storm of criticism, but the rule has not yet been amended.
