Today is November 25, 2021, the day that the Republic of Suriname became politically independent from the former colonizer of the Netherlands 46 years ago. The celebration of independence, or Srefidensi, will also be sober this year.
Today is a national day off in Suriname and in the morning there are two ceremonies. This concerns the inspection of the troops, which takes place at 09.30 am on Kerkplein and the Defilé and Parade from 10.30 am – 12.00 pm on Independence Square.
