HISTORY: Once again, the “Last Generation” movement blocked a road in Munich. On Thursday morning, 17 activists stopped at Karlsplatz: traffic in both directions between the Stachus fountain and the Palace of Justice stalled. Among other things, the movement asks the federal government for a speed limit of 100 km / h on the motorway and the reissue of the nine-euro ticket, as Jakob Beyer explains: «In recent years we have tried everything. When nearly 1.5 million people are being ignored on the streets with “Fridays for Future” and we have a window of opportunity that is just closing, then we have to resort to other forms of protest. I can understand that people are angry here. We are angry too. I don’t want this comparison. I don’t want to sit here ”. The activists are between 18 and 79 years old. For them, this type of protest is the only way to draw attention to what they believe is a climate collapse. The braked riders are bothered by the block: “I think it’s a shame because they also hurt themselves. It’s an important topic, it just creates aggression. So it’s really the case that even people like me, who are actually very well disposed. towards them, at that moment they become totally aggressive and you think: what’s the point? ” “I’m for climate protection. But if these actions bring something, I find it very difficult. As long as politicians are exercised in this way, nothing will change.” According to an activist, 13 scientists who also protested at the Stachus are still in custody. Today’s checkpoint was also supposed to be a solidarity event for Scientist Rebellion supporters.
