sport">Shortly after the start, competitor Ivo Monticelli flew his motorcycle through the air. He landed on the left shoulder of the Dutchman. Herlings stayed on his feet wonderfully, winning the moto after catching up, but was found to have broken his shoulder and was unable to start in the second moto.

I played it so smart this year, I took zero risk and did everything according to plan this season,” said Herlings. “I was almost leading the championship and then this. As you can see on the slope the immobilizer still didn’t come out, so I lost my balance a bit, and before I knew it someone landed on my left shoulder. I can’t believe I won the moto with a broken shoulder blade. The pain was unreal, I had tears in my eyes from the pain the entire match.”

sport">The Grand Prix was won by Slovenian Tim Gajser who finished third in the first moto and second in the second, behind Antonio Cairoli. Gajser strengthened his lead in the World Cup standings to 23 points over Herlings, Cairoli and Frenchman Romain Febvre, who all three have 143 points by the loss of Herlings.

sport">It’s not clear yet if Herlings will be out for a long time. “On Monday we will continue to look at how bad the damage is and when we can race again,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
