VIDEO. Javier Milei takes oath as the new president of Argentina

The president-elect offered a speech at the Casa Rosada, headquarters of the Argentine government.

This Sunday, Javier Milei was sworn in as president-elect of Argentina after having triumphed in the elections on November 19 with more than 56% of the votes in his favor.

He swore “by God and by the country, on these holy gospels” as the new president in the National Congress, in Buenos Aires, where the outgoing president, Alberto Fernández, gave him the sash and the baton of command.

From the early hours of this Sunday, the streets of Buenos Aires were flooded with Milei supporters, who with banners and flags expressed their support for the new ruler.

At exactly 11:00 in the morning, local time, it began in the Legislative Assembly. Cristina Fernández, the outgoing vice president, began the session with the national anthem and then gave way to the reading of the resolution declaring the new government led by Milei for the period 2023-2027.

Later, Milei went to the Casa Rosada, the headquarters of the Argentine Government, to send a message to the nation:

“Today a new era begins in Argentina. Today we end a long history of decadence and decline, and begin the path of rebuilding our country. Argentines have forcefully expressed a will for change that has no return, there is no turning back.

“Today we bury decades of failure, meaningless fights and disputes, fights that have only managed to destroy our beloved country and leave us in ruin. Today begins a new era in Argentina, an era of peace and prosperity, of growth and development, of freedom and progress,” he said.
