Arsenal has completely lost its magic for a while. When visiting Newcastle, they conceded an early goal, but there was never really a full-fledged response after that. In a cautious final offensive, Rice missed a speck of an opportunity. The balance looks particularly poor for Trossard and co.: 1 in 9 in the Premier League. Can the Londoners put their title dream away now?

Heading to Newcastle’s St. James’ Park with a knife to your throat is never a pleasure trip. Just ask Leandro Trossard and Arsenal.

The Gunners were already a bit of a wounded animal in the title battle after a 1 out of 6, the host smelled blood. And that resulted in a first tap after just over 10 minutes.

Anthony Gordon painted the leather perfectly on Alexander Isak’s marble. The Swedish striker had no choice but to bounce in after that measured assist.

Arsenal seemed upset for a moment and were soon pushed even deeper into the hole. Gordon swung into the box after 20 minutes and was also able to print, the deflected ball disappeared next to the far post.

On the other side it actually became a bit warmer a little later when a corner got stuck in the ball. Summer signing Merino planted his foot against it and dreamed of the 1-1 from close range. Although that was not expected from Lewis Hall: the defender turned off the line.

But Arsenal mainly excelled this afternoon in a lack of creativity. Without Odegaard’s turntable, the engine sputters, and Leandro Trossard was also unable to compensate for that loss against Newcastle’s block.

And so our compatriot had to assert himself on a stagnant stage. Just after the hour the ball fell in front of his right, and once again the great Hall was in the right place to clear up.

The Gunners then dragged themselves far too predictably to the end of the game. Yet you are never done with Arsenal. In minute 94, Declan Rice had the chance to score a point. The midfielder was served by Saka, but refused to nod in.

This way, Manchester City and Liverpool can soon do a golden thing and already cross the cross about Arsenal’s title dream. The Londoners lag behind with 1 in 9.

Kai Havertz (Arsenal) is whistled back by the referee. He went too hard on Dan Burn (Newcastle United).

Declan Rice (Arsenal) puts his head to the ball, but he can’t frame it.
