At CES 2022, BMW representatives used a copy of the iX electric SUV to present a revolutionary technology. This involves changing the color of the body panels at the touch of a button. The BMW iX can change color from white to dark gray and vice versa in a matter of seconds.
BMW paint is temperature sensitive

The ones from BMW they announced their intention to unveil the technology last year. Then they did not specify what it consists of and how it works. The Bavarians said that electrophoric technology is behind this innovation. When stimulated by electrical signals, various colored pigments come to the surface, causing the body to change color.
However, the paint only needs a stimulus to change its color, not to maintain it. This means that changing the color requires only a very small amount of energy and will not discharge the battery so that the car remains white or black.
BMW has applied numerous segments called ePaper to the iX body to achieve the incredible effect. Generative design processes were used to ensure that the segments fit around the contours of the crossover.
The images posted by a user of the Twitter platform are as unreal as they are spectacular. The clip captures the moment SUV-ul electric BMW iX dark gray suddenly turns white.
The video shows a man standing next to the SUV, who seems to have activated the system. Then the paint gradually starts to change from dark gray to white. Although it looks fake, it is very real.
The person who uploaded the video on Twitter says that the paint is very sensitive to temperature. In addition, he states that BMW has brought a spare copy. It will be used for demonstrations if the iX “holder” gets too hot or too cold.
This color changing @BMWUSA #iX is wild! It’s apparently very temperature sensitive so they have a backup in a trailer in case this one gets too hot / cold pic.twitter.com/lXG1Gw0IKY
