The upward trend of defending champions Liverpool in the English Premier League was suddenly stopped on Wednesday.
The team of coach Jürgen Klopp had to admit defeat by outsiders Brighton & Hove Albion at home with 0: 1 (0: 1) after two victories and fell back to fourth place. The deficit on leaders Manchester City, who showed no nakedness with a dominant 2-0 (2-0) at Burnley, is seven points more in one game.
The direct duel between the champions and the leaders of the table awaits in Liverpool on Sunday. Should the “Reds” lose this too, the dream of successfully defending their title might already be over. Against Brighton, it was Liverpool’s fourth league defeat this season, the second in a row at their own stadium. Steven Alzate scored the only goal (56th).
