Microsoft lifted the veil slightly during an online presentation Thursday on new video games that will be available on its new console at the end of the year, preparing for stiffer competition with its Japanese rival Sony.
The American computer giant has tried to make fans salivate with new versions of Assasin’s Creed, French Ubisoft, and Madden, the series of American football simulation games from Electronic Games.
While Nintendo sells its Switch like hotcakes thanks to the “Great containment”, the latest born from Sony (PlayStation 5) and Microsoft (Xbox Series X) are scheduled for the end of the year.
Exclusive content
Sales of PlayStation 4 have crushed sales of XBox One since their release in 2013.
“From what we have heard so far, in theory, the Xbox Series X will have more advanced technical features than the PS5, but Sony has a good grasp of the market,” notes analyst firm Futuresource.
Sony also offers a catalog of exclusive content, with popular titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, according to Futuresource.
Aaron Greenberg of Xbox promised a new console with “higher resolutions, crazy fps, incredible racing and, of course, faster load times.”
He explained that developers at studios affiliated with Microsoft were working hard from home on commercial successes like Halo, available only on Xbox or Windows PCs. The titles optimized for the new console will also be usable on Xbox One, he said.
