Video game market in France: First decline in turnover in 6 years – News

As every year, the Syndicate of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL) presents its inventory of video games in France. For 2019, the French market is down slightly, mainly in anticipation of the next generation.

So, after six years of growth continues, the year 2019 of video games in France ended on a 4.8 billion euros in turnover, 2.7% lower than in 2018. By establishing a classification by category, the console ecosystem is in the lead with 2.5 billion euros (-9%), ahead the mobile which passes a milestone with 1.2 billion (+ 28%), and the PC at around 1 billion (-12%). Within these numbers, dematerialized accounts for 42% of the software market, while mobile has 37% and the physical is only 21%. Julie Chalmette, President of SELL, declares when these results are published:

The video game market is distinguished from other cultural industries by the different stages that structure each major cycle of the sector. This year promises to be exciting, practices continue to evolve, hardware innovations are announced and the creators are constantly enriching the proposals made to players.

Note: The figures published by SELL come from panels originating from GSD, Gametrack, and App Annie Intelligence.
