An airplane Yeti Airlines crashed and became the deadliest plane crash in Nepal. A passenger recorded the seconds the plane exploded.
Yeti Airlines with ATR-71 turboprob aircraft carrying 72 passengers from Kathmandu to Pokhara. However, the plane never reached Pokhara International Airport.
The plane crashed on Sunday (15/1/2023) between the old airport and the newly inaugurated Pokhara International Airport earlier this year. As many as 68 people were reported found and four others missing.
Reported from Times of India, appeared a video recording of one of the passengers. The passenger, named Sonu Jaiswal, had time to live stream Facebook right before the explosion occurred. From the video recording, Sonu was sitting by the window. He went on a trip with three friends. They had a conversation while live.
In the video the camera is pointed at the window, the city of Pokhara looks beautiful from above. Sonu then focused on his friends and the situation on the plane.
However, unexpectedly, the plane suddenly shook. The passengers panicked and screamed. Just moments later, the footage shows the plane suddenly exploding!
Video keeps recording. But the camera is out of control.
The plane’s cabin was engulfed in flames. The sound of the plane’s hull screeching was loud. In an instant, the cityscape of Pokhara turned into branches and dirt in a very close range.
It was later discovered that the plane had fallen into a ravine.
Nepal is also grieving. The government has designated Monday (16/1) as a day of national mourning.
The search for victims continues even though the search and rescue team is pessimistic about finding survivors. The black box has been found and an investigation into the cause of the plane has been launched.
The incident was recorded as Nepal’s deadliest plane crash. The number of victims surpassed the previous deadly tragedy, on March 12, 2018. A flight from Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, made an emergency landing at Kathmandu Airport and skidded onto a football field where it burst into flames. A total of 51 people died in the accident.
