In France, people over 65 years of age are now to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Anyone between 65 and 75 years of age who has a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure can get the vaccine from the British-Swedish group. This potentially affects around 2.5 million people, said French health minister Olivier Véran. For people over 75 years of age, however, the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna will continue to be used. France’s top health authority had previously recommended that the vaccine AstraZeneca be used primarily in adults under 65 years of age. According to new data from the UK Health Authority, the vaccine also protects the elderly. Accordingly, among other things, the number of hospital admissions three to four weeks after the first vaccination with AstraZeneca decreased by 80 percent. The French government had announced that it would maintain current measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, including a night curfew, for the next four to six weeks.
