The Rhone native took third place in the 50m freestyle this Friday evening, August 2, in the swimming pool of the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre.

Florent Manaudou won the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle at the Paris Olympic Games on Friday, August 2, giving himself, at the age of 33, a fourth Olympic medal in as many finals in his favorite race.

Australian Cameron McEvoy, 2023 world champion and favourite for the event, won in 21.25 seconds, ahead of Briton Benjamin Proud (21.30 seconds). Manaudou hit the wall in 21.56 seconds.

Titled in 2012, silver medalist in 2016 and 2021, the flag bearer of the Blues therefore wins the fourth individual Olympic medal of his career over this distance, not counting the silver won with the 4x100m freestyle relay runners in Brazil. He becomes the first French swimmer to win four medals at four different Olympic Games.

After a good start in the heats, Manaudou only secured his place in the final with the 8th time. Off-center in lane 1, he appeared particularly relaxed before the race, even allowing himself to launch a giant clapping with the fiery crowd at the La Défense swimming pool. At the end of the race, he celebrated his medal at length with the spectators.

McEvoy, 30, who became the first Australian to compete in four Olympic Games, won the first Olympic title of his career. He succeeds American Caeleb Dressel, who finished 6th in the final.
