[VIDÉO] Facing justice after hitting an STM policeman

A 34-year-old man who refused to pay for the Montreal subway ticket Wednesday could now be indicted for hitting a agent who wants to escape.

The individual was vigorously arrested mid-afternoon at the De l’Église metro station in Verdun municipality for “failing to properly exercise his right of way,” points out Justine Lord-Dufour, Corporate Advisor, Public Affairs at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).

According to the municipal authority’s statements, the man refused to cooperate and hit one of the special agents to escape.

The situation worsened violently when the user resisted arrest.

In a 1 minute 11 second video obtained from The newspaperwe see the two special policemen trying to subdue the suspect on the stairs located very close to the tracks where the subway cars pass.

Somehow going down the stairs, the man in the red jacket continues to fight until the cops throw him to the ground and try to immobilize him.

As the subway and several dubious users arrive, one of the policemen seems to repeatedly shout “Calm down! Take it easy!”.

The officers of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal were called to assist the two special policemen.

“The charges will be made according to the penal code [contre le suspect]. This event will be subject to internal review like all events involving the use of force, “said Justine Lord-Dufour.

The Brotherhood of STM Agents and Peace Officers (CSN) declined to comment on the case.
